4th & 5th Graders Win District Spelling Bee

Congrats to this year's district spelling bee winners, Kingston Czajkowski (Gr. 4) and Rosie Fucito (Gr. 5)! Kingston came in first place and Rosie was the runner-up. Both students received gift certificates to Barnes & Noble, as well as online subscriptions to Encyclopedia Britannica for kids. Kingston will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee in February. N.Y.S. Regents & Mid-term Exam Schedule (January 2018)

January 2018 mid-term and New York State Regents exams begin on Monday, January 22 at 8 a.m. Regular school is in session for Grades PK-8, Monday-Thursday, and ALL grades (PK-12) should attend school on Friday, January 26, although there is a scheduled early dismissal. "Wait, Look and Drive 45" (Traffic Safety Public Service Announcement)

Did you know that about 85% of drivers are speeding when they pass Cairo-Durham Middle/High School? That is almost 9 out of every 10 vehicles! Despite this finding from a 2016 New York State Department of Transportation traffic study, the DOT denied the Cairo-Durham Central School District's request to install a traffic signal in front of the school on Route 145. Therefore, we are focusing on driver education and developing traffic safety campaigns to encourage safe and cautious driving. [Read more]

Below Zero Temps During Week of January 2, 2018

With temperatures predicted to be below zero during the week of January 2, we want to let you know we are asking bus drivers to take a little more time at bus stops so students can leave their homes as close as possible to bus arrival. We also ask for our community's patience as this may cause slight delays in bus routes, but it will help minimize students' exposure to sub-zero temperatures this week. [Read more]

While Governor Cuomo’s recent Executive Order No. 172 gives counties and towns the ability to collect their 2018 property tax payments by the end of 2017, it does not authorize school districts to collect the 2018-19 school taxes before the adoption of next year’s budget. [Read more]
