Did you know that about 85% of drivers are speeding when they pass Cairo-Durham Middle/High School? That is almost 9 out of every 10 vehicles! Despite this finding from a 2016 New York State Department of Transportation traffic study, the DOT denied the Cairo-Durham Central School District's request to install a traffic signal in front of the middle/high school on Route 145.
This is the second time in five years that Cairo-Durham CSD lobbied for a traffic signal in an effort to reduce auto accidents by the middle/high school, and this is the second time the DOT denied the request.
Therefore, the district is focusing on driver education and developing traffic safety campaigns to encourage safe and cautious driving. Please watch our short public service announcement and remember to "Wait, Look and Drive 45!"
