Part 2

Honors courses are designed as an apparatus to provide students in the MS with increased rigor and college level course preparations Students expressing a desire to pursue Honors are to be commended and forewarned. The undertaking of more rigorous coursework, and participating in honors courses is a tremendously difficult yet highly rewarding task. Students pursuing their educational career through this path are, and should be, held to the highest standards of both academic and behavioral excellence. It is this worthy standard of combined excellence that the Cairo-Durham School administration and teachers have reflected in the core of the creation and institution of the Commitment Contract below.

Read the following series of “I” statements to make sure you agree with each declaration. When you are finished reading, print and then sign your name and date the bottom of the contract.

I understand that by my enrollment in Honors level courses, I have signified my desire to pursue more rigorous courses.

I understand that my enrollment in an Honors commences on a trial basis and will be reviewed every five weeks. My enrollment in the course will be jeopardized, and I will be referred for disciplinary action to the Cairo-Durham Academic Integrity Committee and potentially School Administration, for any of the following reasons:

I do not complete any aspect of the summer assignment, including the submission of it, by the date and/or checkpoints determined by my teacher.
I do not complete assignments in a satisfactory manner or submit them by the dates they are due.
I allow my average to fall below acceptable standards, including a passing grade that the teacher deems to be below expected performance. An average of less than 85% at each interim will be automatically referred to the Cairo-Durham Academic Integrity Committee.
I compromise the academic integrity of the course by cheating, plagiarizing, copying, completing work for another student, or violating the academic integrity policy established for Honors students in any way.
I behave in a way that violates the Cairo-Durham Middle School Code of Conduct or impedes the learning environment for my fellow classmates.
