There is a scheduled Emergency Early Dismissal drill on Friday, April 21. All students will be dismissed 15 minutes early. Middle/high school students will be dismissed at 2 p.m., and elementary students will be dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Please note that parents picking up students at dismissal need to be to the Middle/High School no later than 1:45 p.m. and at the Elementary School no later than 2:45 p.m.
Parents who are interested in the addition of a full-day section to the existing pre-k program are encouraged to attend a Pre-Kindergarten Information Night on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in the CDE large cafeteria.
The school district is looking into adding a full-day section of pre-k to its already successful half-day program. The district hopes to positively affect more future kindergarteners by expanding the pre-k program to include a full-day section in addition to the current half-day sections.
Educators from the Center for Vascular Awareness in Albany visited Biology students at Cairo-Durham High School on April 11 for V-Healthy Day. The day is devoted to teaching students about the importance of maintaining a healthy vascular system. Students learned about the effects of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking and genetics on their vascular health. They used sphygmomanometers to take blood pressure.
There will be a special BoE meeting on Thursday, April 20, 2017. The meeting will be held at the Middle/High School Media Center at 7:00 PM.
Our 6th grade English/Language Arts classes followed the annual Alaskan Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race during their Survival Unit, in which they selected and followed a musher (sled driver) while reading “Guts” and “Woodsong” by Gary Paulsen. The latter is an autobiographical account of Paulsen's 1983 Iditarod run. Throughout the unit, students worked on many group and individual reading and writing activities, comparing Paulsen's journey to their mushers' experiences. This letter is to remind you that due to the excessive number of snow days used this year, Cairo-Durham Central School District will be in session on April 20-21, 2017. In addition, in order to meet the 180 day "In Session" requirement, April 13th must also be changed to a full day of instruction for K-12.
