The Cairo-Durham Elementary PTA “Cupcakes for Clara Ray” fundraiser raised a total of $5,600 to support local 8-month-old Clara Ray Morton, who is struggling with Congenital Heart Disease. The CDE PTA sold more than 4,600 cupcakes from Coccadotts Cake Shop in Albany for one dollar each, in addition to receiving $1,000 in monetary donations and the use of a box truck to transport thousands of cupcakes.

Board of Education Candidates
The Cairo-Durham CSD Board of Education has three (3) Board vacancies on the May 2017 budget ballot. Each seat is a three-year, non-paid term.
Two candidates currently serve on the Board and are running for re-election. They are David Infantino and Stephen Brandow. The third seat will be awarded to whichever write-in candidate receives the highest number of votes.
CDE recently hosted a family engagement event called “STEAM Night.” STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Activities included building towers, robots and three-dimensional structures. The activities were great for all ages and everyone enjoyed themselves!
A very big “thank you” to the fifth grade team for all their hard work in creating STEAM Night! Check out some photos in the Facebook photo album below.
Students and staff at Cairo-Durham CSD wore red on Friday, February 3 in support of the American Heart Association’s “Wear Red Day.”
Wear Red Day is a national event during which people raise awareness for heart health by wearing red items. Our staff and students also raised funds by selling red bracelets.
The AHA’s Wear Red Day is especially important in the Cairo-Durham community because of sweet Clara Ray, a school employee’s 7-month-old granddaughter who is currently living with a congenital heart condition.
