Out of a large pool of students across the state, only 80 are selected for the all-expenses-paid, three-week residential science exploration program at NYU. Two of those 80 students are from our very own Cairo-Durham!
Aishwarya Thakur and Issabella Zelinsky have both been accepted to the Simons-NYU Science Explorations Program at New York University, nestled in NYC. They will explore multiple disciplines of science and get a taste of college life this summer!
The Simons-NYU Science Explorations Program at NYU is a three-week intensive program that will expose students to introductory college-level instruction in chemistry, biology, physics, psychology, and neural science. During this program, Aishwarya and Issabella will live in a NYU dormitory, in the heart of NYC, and see what it’s like living on a college campus.
After being surprised to be accepted to this program, Aishwarya was left feeling excited, proud, and with a strong sense of accomplishment. With a plan to major in science, she is thrilled for the opportunity to learn and participate in multidisciplinary scientific labs led by professors from top universities. She also said she’s excited to meet new friends and gain a better understanding of college life. As a bonus, Aishwarya will get to explore and see what NYC has to offer.
When Issabella realized that she was accepted to this competitive program, she was greatly amazed and delighted. With a goal to become a research scientist, Issabella is looking forward to learning and gaining hands-on experience with industry professionals. She’s looking forward to experiencing both college life and life in the big city.
Cairo-Durham CSD is thrilled to share this news. It’s an honorable achievement as hundreds of qualified students across the state apply for this program, with only 80 getting in.
“I am so proud of our two amazing students for earning such a prestigious honor. Aishwarya and Issabella embody everything Cairo-Durham stands for, ‘expect excellence!’” said Dr. Dotan Schips, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
