The Social Studies Literacy After School Program (6th-8th grade) hosted Bronck Museum Curator Shelby Mattice on Dec. 6. Mrs. Mattice taught our scholars what winter living was like during the 1600s and 1700s. She brought artifacts to share including a cattail candlestick, lantern, and beeswax.
On Dec. 8, students played a life-sized board game based on her visit. Students rolled the dice and landed on real 18th century scenarios. Students had to periodically reflect on their journeys in their journals.
In discussion and writing it became very evident that although a more simple time, life was challenging in many ways. Compared to back then, we have a lot more technology to help us in our every day lives.
Great job, students!

It's the Penny Wars! The CDHS sophomore class has declared a Penny War amongst all grades in the high school! All proceeds from the fundraiser will
support your favorite CDHS grade levels and a percentage from each class will be donated to the Greene County Women's League.
How it works: Containers will be located in the Main Office of Cairo-Durham High School now until Dec. 16.
Each penny counts as one positive point for your grade level.
Each dollar counts as positive points for your grade level. Example: a $1 bill gets you 100 points, $5 bill gets you 500 points, etc.).
Each silver coin counts as negative points for OTHER grade levels. In other words, dropping a quarter in another grade’s bucket takes 25 points from their total.
Points will be tallied and the winning class will win a prize which is to be determined.
Best of luck, high schoolers!

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, "Annie Jr." features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie (Phoenix McCabe) charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan (Julie Speenburgh). Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks (Patrick Panyan), his personal secretary, Grace Farrell (Abagail Multari), and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
With a stellar cast and an amazing high school production team, you won’t want to miss this show! Come see the story unfold and support the over 60 students involved in producing Annie Jr!
