Ms. Prinz’s 5th grade class at Cairo-Durham Elementary School was lucky to receive a Financial Literacy Workshop from Broadview Federal Credit Union!
Students were tasked with working in groups to find a way to make food and help others. Throughout the lesson, students were taught how to budget, the cost of goods, what it’s like to calculate the startup of a farm and/or goal, and how they can take their business endeavor and help others.
The students then had the opportunity to use some robot friends to play around with and were tasked with finding a way for their robots to help their farms. Once students finished all of their budgeting and business hard work, they then got to play with their robots and present to other 5th grade students what their plan was and how their robot would help them! Way to go, Mustangs!
Congratulations to Alivia P. for being named the "Star of the Week" in the Whitbeck/Lopez class at Cairo-Durham Elementary School!

NEWS RELEASE from Cairo-Durham Central School District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cairo-Durham Elementary School Receives Stewart’s Shops “Holiday Match” Grant
May 9, 2024, CAIRO, NY – The Cairo-Durham Central School District is proud to announce Cairo-Durham Elementary School was recently awarded $1,000 after being selected as a recipient of Stewart’s Shops annual “Holiday Match” grant program.
The funding has been designated to purchase books for Cairo-Durham Elementary School students to expand their horizons.
“With the encouragement of literacy being prevalent at all grade levels, the Cairo-Durham Central School District and Cairo-Durham Elementary School are excited and honored to be grant recipients of Stewart’s Shops ‘Holiday Match’ program,” said Cairo-Durham Central School District Superintendent Michael Wetherbee.
Securing the “Holiday Match” grant, as well as the Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant in September 2023 that brought $4,000 worth of SyllaSense decodable books for elementary students, was part of an effort spearheaded by the leadership of Cairo-Durham Elementary School teacher Sarah Hasbrook to enhance learning opportunities for all students.
“I am incredibly grateful for Stewart’s Shops and Dollar General in selecting Cairo-Durham Elementary School as a recipient of their grant programs this school year as the District continues its focus on promoting literacy and advancing the skillsets of our diverse student body,” said Hasbrook.
