A spectacular job by our 4th grade team last week performing carols for businesses on Main Street in Cairo! Thank you to the Greene County Sheriff's Office for allowing our students and staff to cross the street safely!
Pre-K students at Cairo-Durham Elementary School received a very special, early visit from Santa Claus himself prior to break!
A huge shoutout to our elves for spreading holiday cheer at Cairo-Durham Elementary School last week!
Theresa Corrigan, a vibrant local artist and the nanny of Ms. Wagor, teamed up with Miss Wagor's 5th-grade class at Cairo-Durham Elementary School to organize an absolute blast of a sugar cookie decorating session!
With an array of cookies, frosting, and toppings, Mrs. Corrigan led the students in designing trees, mittens, snowmen, and more! The class sang holiday carols, and laughter filled the air as everyone had an exciting time together!

Dear Cairo-Durham Central School District Families, Faculty and Staff,
It’s a pleasure to write to you and your loved ones and wish you all a happy and safe holiday season. I hope you all take the time to share what you are grateful for and enjoy this special time together.
It has been a busy year thus far full of progress for our district, and I’d like to highlight just a few key points that stood out.
Our classrooms and hallways have been filled with many bright-minded students and faculty members looking to better themselves and their peers every day. The ability of both sides to interact cohesively and produce quality results in all three schools has provided me a sense of pride.
In regard to business, continued efforts to work on securing grants, equipment and opportunities by our central office staff and faculty have not gone unnoticed. We are inching closer to budget season and look forward to filling you in on the progress, plans and development of the district as a whole.
A prominent feature for the District this year has been the use of the Wellness Center, offering community members 18 years and older the chance to work out for free. We look forward to more applications in the upcoming year.
Our students and faculty have exemplified the saying “practice makes perfect” with their efforts in competitive athletic contests, marvelous winter performances and stunning artwork. Their efforts make the start of 2024 even more anticipated.
We will continue to spotlight the positive difference makers in our district and spread the important traits of kindness, responsibility, accountability, respect and empathy amongst all members. Maintaining and ensuring a safe and successful working and learning environment for our faculty and students remains one of my highest priorities.
Steady growth and sustainability for the District combined with the positivity radiating out of each and every member of the Mustang community are what make my job exciting and worthwhile, and I thank you all for your work this year. Here’s to a prosperous, collaborative and joyous 2024 building off of the success of 2023!
Sincerely,
Michael Wetherbee
Superintendent of Schools

5th grade student Steven B. served as a guest reader for the Whitbeck/Lopez class on Dec. 19! He read “The Special Christmas Tree” to a very attentive audience!
Great job, Steven! A special thank you to Mrs. Zindell for organizing amazing guest readers!
On Dec. 14, the Cairo-Durham Elementary School Student Council went on a field trip to Walmart to shop for two families in need this holiday season.
Ms. Bonnie and Mrs. Fitzgerald each had a team of 10 students. While at Walmart, the students took part in learning how to read prices, understand specific gift ages for children, stay within a budget, and work as a team to make the best choices for the children they were shopping for.
All along the way they were also taking part in a fun scavenger hunt! The challenge was to work together to shop and complete the scavenger hunt first. The groups ended up in a tie because both teams worked so great together.
After Walmart, the group ate lunch at Barnwood. The students were on their best behavior, laughing and talking, making new friends, and received a compliment from the staff. Way to go, Mustangs!
