Ms. Jones' PreCalculus students were recently working on proving Trig Identities and she allowed them to work wherever they would like. The class posted responses on windows, whiteboards, paper and even a cardboard box. They were scattered around the room writing up their work. Way to go, students!

The Cairo-Durham Central School District would like to congratulate Cairo-Durham High School sophomores Jessica Baeckmann, Lauren Zecca and Cairo-Durham Elementary School Special Education teacher Sarah Hasbrook on being named recipients of the Capital District YMCA (Greene County) Outstanding Student and Educator Award! The award and event on April 26 at the Pegasus Restaurant in Coxsackie recognized the "best of the best" in our local high schools; spotlighting those students and educators that demonstrate leadership and volunteerism in their respective school, community and/or YMCA. Award winners received a one-year youth/adult membership to the YMCA, an award plaque and a certificate. Student and educator criteria include demonstrating leadership and dedication in service to their schools, communities and/or the YMCA. The teacher/student must have a character that embraces the values of the YMCA: Caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. In attendance to support the recipients were Superintendent Michael Wetherbee, CDES Principal Christopher Stein, Director of Pupil Services Doug Morrissey, Guidance Counselors Justin Karker and Emily Gannon and Board of Education President Elizabeth Daly.

Cairo-Durham is proud to announce that William Stallbohm is the March Student of the Month. William is a 10th grade student, currently enrolled in a rigorous course load of Spanish III, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Geometry, and other Regents level classes. William’s teacher, Mrs. Maassmann, describes him as being, “always prepared for class and offering to help others. Will is a model student. He takes interest in what we are doing in class and is always on task.” William believes that he is successful because, “I show up, do most of the work required, and attempt to use my gained knowledge to solve the next problem or just comic relief.” While in school William participates in the school’s Board Game Club. He hopes to continue his education after high school to obtain a degree in H-VAC or Engineering. Outside of school he spends his time eating, sleeping, playing video games, and riding his bike. Additionally, he has climbed all of the Catskill Mountains and has been to 46 of the 50 states! William’s classmates say he is, “good at school, intelligent, or having all the brains over there.” Here William is pictured with one of his favorite teachers, Mrs. Allison Manoli, who is his teacher for Civil Engineering and Architecture. Congratulations William, and keep up the good work!
