Catherine Dodig Named CDHS Principal
CAIRO, NY – The Cairo-Durham Central School District is excited to announce the hiring of Catherine Dodig as the principal of Cairo-Durham High School following her appointment by the Board of Education on July 6.
“The Cairo-Durham Central School District is thrilled to welcome Ms. Dodig to its administration team,” said Superintendent Michael Wetherbee. “We are grateful for David Proper, who stepped in for the interim principal position and carried us through the end of this school year at the high school level. I, along with many others, am eager to see the impact Ms. Dodig will have on the students, faculty and staff in this upcoming school year and beyond.”
Dodig comes to Cairo-Durham with a diverse and experienced background in education and athletics. Born and raised in Saugerties, Dodig began her journey in education at Columbia-Greene Community College where she received her Associate’s Degree in Individual Studies and was also named the Most Outstanding Player for both seasons of Softball that she played in while attending school there.
Following her local success, Dodig earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. She would go on to attend the State University of New York at Albany for graduate work earning a Master of Science Degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology.
Dodig possesses a New York State Professional Teaching Certification in Mathematics 7-12. She has completed all requirements with mastery to earn endorsement for New York State School Building Leader Certification through the Leadership Academy program at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Massachusetts with a grade point average of 4.0.
A nine-year teaching career at Catskill Middle School teaching 7th and 8th grade mathematics and serving as a grade-level team leader and member of the district's Data Results team was complemented by Dodig’s election to serve and hold office as Treasurer of the Catskill Teachers Association from 2018-2023.
Dodig has also found success on the playing field from a coach’s perspective as she led the Catskill Varsity Softball and Varsity Girls Soccer Teams - winning two Patroon Conference Girls Soccer Championships and named the 2018 Patroon Conference Coach of the Year.
In her spare time, Dodig can be found smiling with her three lovable rescue pets: Gravy, Anubis, and Nyx. She also enjoys traveling to experience new places and cultures, staying active outdoors and unwinding with a good book.
“Personally, I am eager to familiarize myself with the community and its members over the upcoming months and am passionate about bringing community pride to life; both inside and outside of the school buildings,” Dodig said. “As an administrator, I value active engagement, collaboration, and transparency. In my role as Principal, I'm excited to support and challenge our students and staff at CDHS to flourish in all ventures - both academic and extracurricular in nature.”
