Aishwarya Thakur, a member of the class of 2025 at Cairo-Durham High School, has been recognized as the Student of the Month for June. Described by her teacher, Ms. McCabe, as “hardworking, creative, and caring, Aishwarya's vibrant personality radiates positivity wherever she goes. Her constant smile, infectious laughter, and boundless energy make her an invaluable addition to any environment she enters.”
Aishwarya's dedication to academic excellence is evident through her membership in the National Honor Society. She considers herself a quick learner, possessing the ability to grasp knowledge swiftly. Aishwarya attributes her selection as the Student of the Month to her diligent work ethic and commitment to staying on top of her assignments. Despite taking a challenging course load of AP and Honors classes, she consistently achieves outstanding grades, with all her scores in the 90s.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Aishwarya enjoys creative activities such as drawing and painting, as well as spending time with her family and friends. Looking toward the future, Aishwarya aspires to attend a prestigious Ivy League university and major in bioscience, driven by her ultimate goal of becoming a doctor. An interesting fact about Aishwarya is that she is fluent in both English and Hindi. Cairo-Durham is proud to honor students like Aishwarya, who set a good example for all of our students!
Graduation will take place on Friday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Cairo-Durham High School in the Auditorium due to impending weather.

The Cairo-Durham MS/HS staff recognized its Administrative Assistants this year with a celebration and cupcakes! Each individual got a card, cash and a flowering plant. We can't thank them enough for all that they do for us. As stated by Justin Karker, "we would fall apart without them. They are the glue that hold us together!"

Antonio Brooks is Cairo-Durham High School’s May Student of the Month. Antonio is graduating this month as the school’s Salutatorian, with a weighted GPA of 100.5. He is taking a difficult course load with many AP classes, such as: College Physics, AP European History, AP Government and AP Calculus. Antonio attributes much of his success to, “a genuine curiosity for knowledge. I am extremely hard working and set high standards for myself.”
Outside of the classroom, Antonio plays soccer and volleyball, is part of National Honor Society, participates in the spring musical and has participated in NYSSMA, All County and Area All State. Ms. Clarmont, his vocal teacher, describes Antonio as, “flying under the radar but has a heart of gold, and is a good student to boot.” His peers would say that he is “a nice guy to those around him and stands by his convictions.”
When not in school, Antonio enjoys spending time outside, hiking, and martial arts. He also loves studying philosophy. After high school Antonio is going to attend Cornell University and study bioengineering. Cairo-Durham is very proud of students like Antonio and wishes him the best as he moves onto college in the fall!

The students in Mrs. Rice’s and Mrs. Lopez’s class went camping on June 16!
First, they worked as a team to create a giant tent. Then they created and told camping stories, poems, jokes, and recipes around a fire! As night settled in, everyone listened to and identified forest night sounds. Bears, peepers, bullfrogs, coyotes and more! Did you know that deer snort? They do! Finally, the class made s’mores! Mr. Stein joined the students around the fire and listed to their creations!
It was a great day and night at Camp Rice/Lopez!

The Class of 2023 enjoyed their "Senior Sunset" with fun games, activities and great food!
Ms. Flubacher's 5th grade class participated Genius Hour Projects for an end-of-year activity. This is the students' time to be a teacher for the day by researching a topic of their choosing and interest, but must be approved first!
The class practiced taking notes and researching information pertaining to their topics. Once they researched, students then needed to put together a presentation (Google Slides, a website, poster, etc.).
On the day of the presentation, the students had to teach their classmates about their topic with a 15-minute lesson and an activity for the class to complete at the end to see what they learned from the presentation!
Students enjoyed taking ownership of their learning and sharing their interests with the class! Topics included gardening, various animals, dirt bikes, how to speak Spanish and many more!
