The Cairo-Durham Central School District would like to formally welcome and introduce our school community to Mr. David Proper, who on March 9th, 2023, was approved by the Board of Education to serve as the Interim Principal at Cairo-Durham High School.
Mr. Proper comes to CDHS after 23 years at Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, serving as a Vice Principal and Athletic Director for 10 years and Middle School Principal for his last 13 years. Possessing a background in being a High School Principal, Mr. Proper filled that role at Parsons Child and Family Center in Albany for a number of years prior to his time at Coxsackie-Athens.
After growing up in Columbia County, Mr. Proper attended SUNY Brockport and then SUNY Albany for his undergraduate and Master’s programs. Having been raised and working in the area surrounding Cairo-Durham, Mr. Proper says he is familiar with the district and has great respect for its strong history and makeup.
Mr. Proper has made it clear to district administration and faculty that he is excited to establish connections and interact with the people that make up our district in order to provide the best possible learning opportunities and experience for the student body.

Kindergarten Orientation for the 2023-24 school year will take place on March 27th, 2023 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Cairo-Durham Elementary School located at 424 Main Street in Cairo, NY.
At the orientation, staff will give an overview of the kindergarten program, the screening and registration process, immunization requirements and transportation guidelines. You will also set up your appointment to have your child screened (required). Please call Joanne Cleary with any questions at 518-622-3231.
Orientation is planned for parents/guardians only. Your child will have an opportunity in August to meet their teacher, ride a bus and see the school.
Prom tickets are on sale now until May 26th! This year's Junior and Senior Prom, "Casino Night" will take place on June 3rd from 6-10 p.m. at Saugerties Steamboat Co. Tickets can be purchased from a Junior Class Officer or from Ms. Wickham in the Main Office.
Additionally, CDHS is hosting an event on April 5th in the CDHS Cafeteria for students to receive free prom dresses. We are asking for prom dress donations, as well.
